I am the lead engineer as well as part of a recruiter team working in a German automotive MNC which nearly average hires 500 freshers from top engineering colleges in India was shocked by the news.
The company is heavily investing in AI tools and hence requires fewer engineers in the future.
“Hiring is frozen for the year 2025” A mail pops up on Outlook from the HR team.
I asked my recruiting manager what the reason behind this was as many freshers had sent me their profiles on LinkedIn and asked for referrals.

According to the Times of India, IIT Bombay most prestigious engineering college encounters a setback as 36% of its recent graduates are unable to secure placements. Whereas IIT Delhi encounters setbacks at 40%. If India’s best student is struggling to get placed think about normal students.
Rapid decrease in profits due to low demand in the automobile sector in Europe. So heavy budget cut for the upcoming years.
BE, Btech, MBA, MTech, and MCA are all gonna affect heavily.
Unfortunately, upcoming years at least in the IT domain gonna face tough days because Demand has been reduced and supply is still intact. So prepare for tough days!!
So it's simple we don’t have any demand to hire you it doesn’t matter how much you carry skills because we will unfortunately not be able to even entertain your resume.
Fear of recession making us not overspend on training and onboarding stuff.
